The Five Closets Every Woman Has (And Why Yours Might Be Stressing You Out)
Let's play a game.
Picture your closet, as you just left it, in your mind.
Not the cute Instagram version of your closet. Not the one you show your friends after you've spent an hour cleaning it out.
Your actual closet.
The one with the random hangers.
The jeans you haven't worn in three years.
The shirt that still has the tag on it.
The dress hanging in the back that you're not even sure fits anymore.
Now let me ask you something.
How much of what's hanging in there do you actually wear?
If you're like most women, probably less than you think.
As someone who has spent years coaching women and now helping women find their style, I've noticed something interesting.
Most women don't have one closet.
They have five.
And all five are fighting for space.
Let's see if you recognize any of them.
5 Closets
This closet is filled with possibilities.
Someday I'll wear this.
Someday I'll have somewhere to go.
Someday I'll lose weight.
Someday I'll find the right shoes.
Someday I'll be brave enough to wear it.
Someday.
The problem with the Someday Closet is that someday rarely comes.
Instead, those pieces sit there taking up physical space and mental space.
Every time you see them, they quietly remind you of something you're not doing, haven't done, or wish was different.
And honestly?
That's a lot of pressure to hang on a clothing rack.
5 Closets
Almost every woman has one.
The jeans.
The dress.
The shorts.
The outfit from ten years ago.
The pieces we keep because "maybe one day they'll fit again."
Now before you come for me, I'm not saying you have to get rid of everything.
But I am saying this:
Your closet should support the body you have today.
Not punish you for not having the body you had ten years ago.
Imagine opening your closet every morning and seeing only things that fit you right now.
Things that make you feel good right now.
Things that celebrate the version of you standing in front of the mirror today.
That sounds a whole lot better than starting every day with a reminder of what used to be.
5 Closets
You know exactly what I'm talking about.
Maybe it was a vacation purchase.
Maybe it was an impulse buy.
Maybe the salesperson convinced you that you absolutely needed it.
Maybe an influencer talked you into it.
Whatever happened, you spent more money than you probably should have.
And now?
You feel guilty getting rid of it.
So it hangs there.
Year after year.
Like a very expensive monument to poor decision-making.
Listen, we've all done it.
Every single one of us.
But keeping something you never wear doesn't get your money back.
It just continues costing you closet space.
Sometimes the lesson was worth the price tag.
Take the lesson and let the shirt go.
5 Closets
This one is deeper than clothing.
This closet holds versions of ourselves.
The corporate version.
The college version.
The newlywed version.
The stay-at-home mom version.
The pre-kids version.
The version before the divorce.
The version before the promotion.
The version before life changed.
Sometimes we keep these pieces because they remind us of who we were.
Sometimes we keep them because we're grieving who we were.
And sometimes we keep them because we're not quite sure who we're becoming next.
This is why style is never just about clothes.
Style is often about identity.
And identity changes.
The woman you were five years ago isn't supposed to be the same woman you are today.
Growth should show up in your closet too.
5 Closets
Here's the funny thing.
Most women only wear about 20% of their closet.
It's the same jeans.
The same jacket.
The same shoes.
The same handful of tops.
The same outfits on repeat.
Those pieces tell a story.
They tell you what silhouettes you love.
What fabrics you reach for.
What makes you feel comfortable.
What makes you feel confident.
What actually works for your life.
And instead of paying attention to those clues, most of us keep shopping for the fantasy version of ourselves.
The woman who wears sky-high heels every day.
The woman who loves bodycon dresses.
The woman who wears bold colors.
The woman who somehow always looks effortlessly chic while grocery shopping.
Meanwhile, the real you is standing there reaching for the same favorite pair of jeans for the fourth time this week.
And honestly?
That's not a bad thing.
That's information.
The Goal Isn't a Bigger Closet
The goal isn't more clothes.
The goal isn't following every trend.
The goal isn't becoming someone else.
The goal is understanding yourself.
Understanding what you love.
Understanding what makes you feel confident.
Understanding what works for your body, your lifestyle, your season of life, and your personality.
Because when you stop shopping for the woman you think you should be and start dressing the woman you actually are, everything gets easier.
Getting dressed becomes easier.
Packing becomes easier.
Shopping becomes easier.
Showing up becomes easier.
And confidence?
Confidence follows.
At THE SOCO HOUSE, that's what we're really helping women do.
We're not just helping you build a wardrobe.
We're helping you figure out which closet deserves the most space.
And spoiler alert:
It's the one that belongs to the woman you're becoming, not the one you're trying to hold onto.
So tell me...
Which closet is taking up the most room in yours right now?
